Scotland is the second largest international financial hub in the UK, with its strength deriving from “its diversity and strong track record of innovation”, according to TheCityUK’s 2024 Enabling growth across the UK report.

However, Scotland also has the second highest percentage of UK youth not in education, employment or training – 16%, with the highest being the north-east of England at 17% – according to PwC and Connectr’s Youth Employment Index 2024.

There are a range of opportunities for young people and other professionals to access a career in finance, and we are keen to guide the next generation of professionals. Building on discussions from 2024 about attracting and retaining talent in financial services in Scotland, we will start by encouraging conversations, particularly in compliance and operations and financial planning, about what is changing in the sector and how we can push boundaries to be more transparent about current issues regarding AI and thus help you prepare for a future in finance.

We will host three events on 6 November 2025 at Murrayfield Stadium, which is celebrating its 100th year. This will be a refreshing departure from typical CPD event settings and a chance to inspire, challenge and engage the financial community. Members can share ideas, help raise standards and gain an understanding of how to nurture talent.

Compliance & Operational event

The event will bring expert opinion and insight from leading voices in the industry to Scottish professionals. We will discuss the major issues of CASS (the Financial Conduct Authority’s Client Assets Sourcebook), operational resilience, financial crime and AI. Attendees will understand more about the challenges facing operations and compliance, discuss solutions and be inspired to make change.

“As one of the year’s flagship events for CISI Scotland, it truly promises to be a showcase of the country's best expertise”
Shaid Moughal ACSI
Head of client assurance, Aberdeen Group
CISI Scotland co-president

Financial planning event

CISI Scotland co-president Jonathan Gibson CFP™ Chartered FCSI (Financial Planning) says, "If we are to grow financial planning in Scotland, we must first focus on growing people.”

This is a must-attend event for financial planning professionals. It will address the challenges in the field, incite discussion to discover new opportunities and encourage skills-building. It will include a line-up of industry experts and renowned speakers focusing on thought-provoking, skills-challenging topics and activities that will engage financial planners.

“It is set to be one of the standout events as we work collectively to raise standards and nurture talent across the financial planning profession”
Jonathan Gibson CFP™ Chartered FCSI (Financial Planning)
